May 30. We leave Fourner Bay at 9;15am in showers, cool temperatures and with a bit of a tail wind (not that I could put up our sails; with the main sail being jammed and all) It took us about 4.5 hours into the main wharf in ShearWater where we temporarily tied up and had a hot lunch and warmed up. Then we booked into the marina, fueled up and moved to a berth. They had a marine store and marine service facility close by. I searched out the service manager and he came down to see what my mainsail problem was. Together with advice from the harbour master we managed to wrestle free the sail and they gave me advice on how not to jam it again. No charge!? I just gave the service manager $20 and much thanks. Laurence and I checked out the grocery/liquor store and laundromat and pub. All just at the head of the main wharf. We decided ( well I did) to have dinner at the pub and watch the last period of the Oilers playoff game, against Dallas, on the big screen. 3 to 1, Oilers. So the sail is fixed and so is the leak in the hatch. There is always something to do to keep me busy on a boat. The marine weather forecast is for an active system to roll through here on Sunday Monday and Tuesday, bringing strong gale force winds. We decide to wait it out here until things calm down. Then we met some more experienced sailors from Victoria that told us about a more accurate and specific app that actually tells you what the wind conditions are, where you are and where you’re going, at specific times. “PredictWind”. Environment Canada Marine Forcasts are for a large general area and that called for a gale warning and for us to leave on Wed. June 5. PredictWind gave us a good window on Monday. Off we decided to go, following our new friends; early on Monday morning.
