July5. Fuel up after waiting an hour or so for a barge to clear the fuel dock. Twaz a low tide and a post tie up to get fuel. I managed to break the antenna cover for the GPS chart device, by catching it on one of the posts as i was tying up to the fuel dock. I did manage to fish the cover out of the water with my fish net and later on; duct tape the broken cover over the guts of the antenna, which did not seem to be more than bent out-a-shape. And indeed; my chart plotter’s GPS was working normally. Very good indeed! We were outa Tenakee Springs about noon and headed south again with enough of a tailish wind to sail for 2 hours before the wind died away. After that we saw a couple of grizzlies on the shore and more whales. We even saw one humpback surround a school of fish near the surface with a “bubble curtain” and then come up from below with mouth wide open for a fishy snack. I’d heard about that technique but never witnessed. We pulled into a deserted Echo Bay about 7pm just in time for a sunny HH. Yes, at low tide, there was quite a nice echo, much to Pi’s confusion and interest. I put a crab trap down………again.
