July14. This was a long day of mostly motoring into Refuge Cove at the outskirts of Ketchikan. We motored for 9.5 hours and when the skies cleared a bit and a helping wind came up; we sailed the last 2.5 hours into Refuge Cove. We still had enough alcohol in our larder for an adequate and deserved HH. We choose not to go the further hour or so into the main wharf in Ketchikan because we were tired and didn’t want to bother with trying find a slip. We were also well supplied from our stop in Petersburg, so we did not need to stop in Ketchikan for supplies or another taste of “cruise ship touristy city”. The anchorage in Refuge Cove was a bit sketchy because it was on a hard rocky bottom and the chain and maybe even the anchor made chaffing sounds for most of the night after midnight. No wind was forecast but some did show up and it was just enough to move the boat around and give us the uneasy feeling of maybe dragging our anchor into a not so good situation. Didn’t get more than about 3 hours of interrupted sleep. The anchor did hold it’s original position.
