July 21. Out of Prince Rupert at 11:30am in a mix of sun and cloud with a slight tail wind. After an hour or so of motoring I put the sails up. I could only achieve about 3mph which is a decent trolling speed. Out went the line and in a few minutes had a hit which escaped before I got it to the boat. In another 15 minutes or so: another strike and this time I got a 4 or 5 pound coho in the boat while still sailing. Leaning over the side, holding the rod, sailing and netting. Talk about multitasking!? As it also turns out; there is not a lot of appropriate space on this sailboat for cleaning fish, without some stern modifications. Only did an hour of sailing and fishing before the wind died. We motored into a familiar anchorage at Kumealon Cove at about 7pm and we let Pi off on her own private islet and put the crab trap down again. Barbequed salmon and pesto potatoes for dinner.
I released all the larger salmons until I finally caught one small enough to fit on the barbeque.
