Day 24

May 29. It rained fairly heavily overnight and there was a few drips of water ingressing the centre hatch. Pi whined and we ignored her. She left a large puddle on the mat at the bottom of the stairs up, when we were not looking. Bad Pi. First mistake on the boat though. Might have had something to do with drinking sea water the previous day? I put a temporary plastic cover over the offending hatch, to be delt with in drier times. The 10:30 marine forecast called for gale force winds for the area in a few days. We decided that it would be wise to try and reach a marina in Bella Bella/ShearWater to wait for another “opening”. We left Fury Cove at 12;15pm. We did about an hour of motoring and then the wind picked up from the right direction so ; up the sails went. What a pleasant change; turning the engine and fans off and just hearing the slapping of waves on the hull. The wind only lasted for about an hour and; back on with engine. I had some trouble getting the mainsail back in. I forced it back into the mast using the winch. Shouldn’t have done that. It pinched the sail in so tightly that I couldn’t get it our again. Could this be hour of sailing be the last on this trip? AAArrrrrGGGG.! We motored past the wreck of a village Namu to a nice cove called Fourgner Bay and were snuggly anchored by 6:15pm. Not a good dogable cove but we did row a short distance to let Pi onto a slippery steepish rocky short to do her business. Once burnt. The sun came out and the hatch had dried so an hour was spent redoing some of the suspect caulking. We had a nice sunny HH and dinner on our “patio”.
