Day 33,34,35,36, 37

June 7 – We left Kumealon anchorage at 7am, in the fog. Radar not working! It worked just fine a few days ago when I tested it in non foggy conditions. Oh well the seas were flat and I could see logs in the water ahead and both gpss were working. No problemo as long as some speeding ship can see me on their functioning radar? The fog cleared in about an hour. Got into a civic marina in Prince Rupert about 12:30. Tied up. Walked Pi. Went to a nearby pub for too much greasy pub food and beers. After that we walked about 15 minutes to a well stocked Safeway and BC Liquor Store for some immediate needs. On the way we passed a Pharma Save and to our surprise they had our latest covid vaccine in stock and an opening to stab both of us, then and there. Done. There was a pet supply store in the mall and we bought Pi a jacket because she is such and wimp and starts to shiver after a couple of hours; “on watch” in the cockpit. Laurence picked up some of her “necessities” at Shoppers. At the marina we had a nice outside HH and I questioned a nearby charter fishing guide about buying some fresh crab from him. His clients took all the crab. He suggested I would do “just fine” by dropping my trap off the dock where I was moored and gave me a small halibut carcass that he was just going to “overboard”. It was about 130 feet down from the back of my boat. I sent my baited trap down but had my doubts.

June 8- The morning was spent fixing a loose connection in the radar and replacing the black water tank vent hose. We arrived here in Prince Rupert for their biggest party of the year (I’m told); The Prince Rupert Sea Festival weekend. The dock we were on was the centre of activities; Tugs, Fisheries , Coast Guard vessel tours, kayak, canoe, homemade boat, dragon boat races and more. There was an interesting pop up market and of course beer gardens, show and shine and a crab eating contest, which we got there too late for me to enter, damnit!

June 9-More Sea Festival events and a decision to stay in Prince Rupert to do some scheduled maintenance on our Yanmar diesel motor on Monday.

june 10- decided to spend the day doing an oil change on the ol’ Yammy. Plus fuel filters and belts……….just cause I was in there already. Done by HH. Lunch was picked up by Laurence at Subway because the boat including the kitchen was adversely affected by the engine work. Finished clean up by @ 7pm and off to the local pub for dinner.

June 11, Out of Prince Rupert at 7:30pm in the rain but no wind. Into Goose Bay on Dundas Island by 1:30. Lunch at a nice anchorage and then off to the shore for a Pi walk and a bit of a “walk about” for us. It looks like an early tomorrow departure for a 3 or 4 hour trip into Alaska waters.

A slightly better than average day of fishing in Prince Rupert in 1929!?

Goose Bay Dundas Island. Last stop before Alaska
