June13 – Outa Hassler Harbor about 9 am. Twaz about 3 hours on flat seas; into Ketchikan fuel dock. Filled up with about 40 lts of diesel. Good to know that my credit card works here. There were 5 huge cruise ships in the harbor. The population of Ketchikan is about 9,000 The cruise ships deposit many times that every “CruiseDay” in Ketchican. The civic marina was further on than the cruise ship terminal. It was in the older part of town, not tourist oriented and kind of groddy. @$62Cdn per night with elect. It was a 10 minute walk to a Safeway ( vegies ect. about the same as in downtown Vancouver plus the exchange) And not quite as fresh. But surprisingly; they had freshish corn on the cob and peaches. Also within a few minutes walk was; a laundromat, marine supply store and liquor store. The toilets and pay showers were a bit of a hike from the dock and open to us marina users and the public between 7am and 9:30pm. Some of the public, like in Vancouver etc.; are drug addicts and homeless. The facilities were somewhat monitored by a security guard but still somewhat “trashed” and “institutional. It was also quite a noisy with float planes taking frequently off throughout the day (starting at 6am). Fishing boats also started early. Going to be glad to be outa Ketchikan.
