July 8. We did a long day of motoring ( 9 hours) on mostly nice seas into Portage Bay, just north of our next planned stop, a return to Petersburg. We saw lots of whale, jumping salmon and huge schools of small fish on the surface. The whales were feeding as were the bald eagles. We witness one eagle get it’s talons into something big and it dragged the eagle under, not to resurface. Portage Bay is a large protected bay with room for many boats to anchor. One of them was distinctive with red sails; that I recognized from our previous anchorage at Warm Springs Bay called Polar Sun. Crab trap down again and a bit of bottom jigging to no avail. My $100 USD non-resident fishing license is sure sure turning out to be; a bad “investment”.
