Final Day-Day 117

August 31. Took Pi into a close by beach for a leashed walk about 7am. We left Clam Bay at 8:15 under sunny skies and with little wind. We timed our arrival at Poirier Pass perfectly and went easily through at or close to the slack tide. Once out of the pass and into the Strait the predicted Northwest wind picked up to between 15 and 20 knots. Up went the sails and we made it to Point Grey in Vancouver before the wind died, in about 4 hours. At Point Grey, just off Wreck Beach we saw a small pod of orcas passing by and later on; off Spanish Banks we saw a grey whale mingled in with all the wind, kite surfers, paddle boarders and even the odd jet ski. It took us about an hour to make it into Fishermans Wharf in False Creek, right beside Granville Island. It was quite surprising that we easily found a berth there on the Saturday of a Labour Day long weekend. We had the obligatory bubbly that we had dutifully saved, on the boat and then caught a McUber car into Laurence’s downtown highrise condo. That building seemed to sway for a few hours after we arrived. Damn “sea legs”. Against a lot of odds; there we were, safe and sound and even still talking to each other.
